How long does it take to service a pair of skis?We are flexible on timing and can usually provide 24hr turnaround if required. Just ask
-
Why edge tune?Edge tuning = edge sharpening. Tuning maintains the desired angle at the edge of the ski. Properly maintained edge allows the ski to interact with the snow in the desired manor and therefore allow the skier to have greater control and an improved performance.
-
Do you offer a call out service?Yes we do in our very own Mazda Bongo Campervan! We can perform this service on the street during daylight hours. We just need to be able to park out the front of your house for two hours and have access to a power source. The cost of the call out service is approx. From £150 depending on location
-
I have just brought a pair of new skis, do they need to be waxed?Brand new skis usually will just have a light factory wax which can be removed after 1-2 days skiing. We recommend to get the skis waxed properly before taking them out for a week on the snow. We provide a cheaper service if you just require a quick wax with no other work
-
Are you are qualified ski technician?Yes, our ski technicians have completed the Ski/Board Technician Foundation Course from The Piste Office (www.thepisteoffice.com) and have over 5 years experiencing servicing skis and boards
-
What wax do you use?Butta eco-friendly universal wax as standard. For indoor/dry slopes we use Polar X.
-
I used my skis for a week, do I need them serviced?Yes very likely. Keep them fresh and speedy with a new layer of wax. and increase your skis longevity
-
I am going to ski on an indoor slope, is there anything specific I should know?"It is likely that the snow on indoor slopes is going to be more abrasive on the skis/board and therefore we recommend applying a harder wax. We use Datawax Polar X for indoor slopes
-
How should I store my skis?Store then in a dry place, you want to avoid anywhere that may be damp or have extreme temperatures, such as the cellar or attic, under the bed on their sides with the binding closed, as if you had a boot in them. At SSNL, we offer the 'Hibernation' service which applies a thick layer of wax to the ski keeping it healthy over summer and ready for next winter.
-
My skis have been serviced, why can I still see minor scratches on them?Minor scratches can not be fixed with p-tex base repair resin. This is because the depth of the scratch is not enough to allow the resin to bind. Minor scratches will only have a very minor effect on equipment performance, if any at all! If you would like to have the minor scratches removed, then it is advisable to take them for a base grind service. Unfortunately, we do not offer that service. Note; base grinding removes a layer of your skis base. We do not recommend this service every year as it will decrease longevity of the ski/snowboard.
-
Do you service snowboards?Yes, the prices are the same as for a ski service
-
Why wax?Waxing decreases the amount of friction between the ski and the snow surface allow you to go faster. It also improves the health and longevity of the ski.
